The assessment pack

Every instrument on this site, as a printable scoring workbook a clinic can put on a table and complete with a pen.

Why a printed workbook

Scoring on screen works when one person is assessing. It works badly when three people are reconciling, which is how the more useful instruments are actually used. A printed workbook can be annotated, argued over, handed to a colleague and filed with a date on it, and a filed workbook is what makes the second run meaningful.

Every instrument page here also carries a print stylesheet, so you can print any single instrument at no cost and without giving us an email address. The pack exists because printing 34 pages individually is tedious, and because the workbooks add material that does not belong on a public page.

What is in the pack

  • Scoring sheets. One per instrument: criteria, descriptors, the band selector as tick boxes, a totals rail and the band interpretations.
  • Scoring guides. Written for somebody who was not in the room when the instrument was designed, covering the common scoring errors and how to resolve a disagreement between two scorers.
  • Evidence lists. What to have in front of you before you start, so that scoring is not interrupted by looking for documents.
  • Re-scoring comparison sheets. Two runs side by side with space for the date, the scorer and what changed between them. This is the sheet that turns an assessment into a measurement.
  • Multi-site workbooks. The same instrument across several locations, since aggregating sites conceals the variation worth finding.
  • Supplier specification sheets. An instrument reformatted as a written specification and acceptance test, to hand to whoever does the work.

What it costs

The starter pack, ten instruments with their scoring guides, is free to newsletter subscribers. The complete pack is a single payment of £49, and a group licence for operators of more than three sites is £149. Full detail is on the funding page, alongside the sponsor rate card and the rules that keep both away from any criterion.

What is not withheld

Nothing. Every criterion, every descriptor, every band threshold and every interpretation is published free on this site and always will be. The pack sells a format and a set of working sheets, not access to the method. If that arrangement stops working commercially we will change the pack rather than the instruments.

What we do with your email address

We send you the pack and one short email a month when a new instrument is published. We do not sell, share or rent the list, we do not use it for anybody else's marketing, and you can unsubscribe from any email. The privacy page sets out what we hold, on what basis and for how long.
